Terms of Use

The Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP™©) web-based training and patient management/reporting environments, including www.mbsimp.com, are property of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and under exclusive management by Northern Speech Services, Inc (NSS). All Rights Reserved.

MBSImP web-based training and patient management/reporting user accounts are non-transferrable. MBSImP accounts must be registered to one, and only one, individual as designated at the time of account enrollment/creation. Transferring, sharing or otherwise providing account access to any other individual or entity is strictly prohibited. Regardless of the paying individual, institution or facility, individual MBSImP accounts are permanently retained and solely controlled by the individual as named on the account at the time of initial account enrollment/creation, hereafter referred to as the Enrolled. Should the Enrolled leave an associated hospital, institution, or facility group, all patient data entered via the Enrolled through his or her account will be controlled, retained, and only accessible by the institution or facility; however, access to the individual MBSImP account will be retained by the Enrolled, and his or her account may be associated and aligned with another hospital, institution, or facility group should the Enrolled so choose.

The MBSImP web-based training and patient management/reporting account must be designated to, and only to, a recognized speech-language pathologist. By enrolling in the MBSImP training, the Enrolled is certifying that he or she is a speech-language pathologist as licensed and/or otherwise recognized by the governing and/or licensing body or agency of the Enrolled's state, province, region, or nation. If found not to be a speech-language pathologist, the Enrolled will be subject to immediate, nonrefundable account cancellation and subject to reporting of any and all ethics violations. A university student pursuing a degree in speech-language pathology may enroll in an MBSImP training account under the direction of his or her dysphagia course instructor. University student enrollees are not eligible to become "Registered MBSImP Clinicians" (i.e. no "certification" is offered). Student enrollees may not earn CEUs and are subject to other account restrictions. Concurrent or future access to an account by anyone other than the Enrolled is strictly prohibited and subject to immediate, nonrefundable account cancellation.

MBSImP tuition is nonrefundable and non-transferrable. Paid enrollment does not guarantee successful completion of the MBSImP training and reliability testing nor guarantee achieving "Registered MBSImP Clinician" status. Tuition refunds will not be issued should the Enrolled fail to achieve the minimum passing threshold within the MBSImP Reliability Zone testing; however, the Enrolled will have unlimited testing attempts to satisfy the passing requirements.

The MBSImP web-based training is registered for 21 contact hours of continuing education (2.1 ASHA CEUs). Paid enrollment in the MBSImP web-based training does not guarantee that the Enrolled will be awarded CEUs. Awarding of the certificate of completion and the 2.1 CEUs is dependent on the Enrolled achieving 80% accuracy or higher across each component tested within the MBSImP Reliability Zone testing. CEUs will not be awarded partially nor prior to the Enrolled satisfying the passing requirements within the MBSImP Reliability Zone, nor will CEUs be awarded in increments of less than 2.1. One set, and only one set, of 2.1 CEUs may be awarded per MBSImP account and the CEUs may only be awarded in the name of the Enrolled as designated on the account at the time of initial account enrollment/creation. MBSImP web-based training accounts and associated CEUs are non-transferrable. If the Enrolled is training on a "University Student Access" account, a "Semester Access" account, a "University Instructor" account, a "Guest" account, or other non-professional tuition account, the Enrolled is not eligible to earn CEUs, is not eligible to earn "Registered MBSImP Clinician" status, nor eligible for access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation. MBSImP management reserves the right to award or deny CEUs to the Enrolled as deemed appropriate by these terms of use, and in conjunction with the policies and regulations of the governing and/or licensing body or agency of the Enrolled's state, province, region, or nation.

Paid enrollment in the MBSImP web-based training does not guarantee the Enrolled is or will become a "Registered MBSImP Clinician." The status of "Registered MBSImP Clinician" is earned and recognized only at the time the Enrolled achieves 80% accuracy or higher across each component tested within the MBSImP Reliability Zone testing. Portraying competence in the MBSImP protocol, terminology, and/or methodology, either verbally, through written documentation, or by other means, prior to achieving "Registered MBSImP Clinician" status, is prohibited and may be considered a "misrepresentation of competency" code of ethics violation. MBSImP management reserves the right to report any code of ethics violations to the governing and/or licensing body or agency of the Enrolled's state, province, region, or nation.

MBSImP management reserves the right to deny or terminate at any time the Enrolled's training status or designation as a "Registered MBSImP Clinician" as deemed appropriate by these terms of use, and in conjunction with the policies and regulations of the governing and/or licensing body or agency of the Enrolled's state, province, region, or nation.

Paid enrollment in the MBSImP web-based training does not include or guarantee access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation, which is dependent on earning the designation of "Registered MBSImP Clinician" through successful completion of the Reliability Zone testing. Only "Registered MBSImP Clinicians" are permitted to access or utilize any functionality beyond the three web-based training zones contained within www.mbsimp.com. MBSImP management reserves the right to terminate at any time the Enrolled's access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation.

The Enrolled's status as a "Registered MBSImP Clinician" and the Enrolled's access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation shall terminate as of the date displayed on the Enrolled's "Registered MBSImP Clinician" certificate of completion. In order to maintain designation of "Registered MBSImP Clinician" and continued access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation, the Enrolled is subject to the renewal terms as determined, distributed, and required by MBSImP management. Registered MBSImP Clinician renewal terms shall consist of additional account maintenance fees and/or tuition fees and satisfactory completion of additional training and/or testing as set forth by MBSImP management. MBSImP management reserves the right to deny at any time the Enrolled's renewal status of "Registered MBSImP Clinician" and reserves the right to terminate at any time the Enrolled's access to the MBSImP's online interface for patient management and report generation.

At the time of enrollment, the Enrolled consents to receiving email and mailing updates related to the MBSImP web-based training and other speech-language pathology related materials and offers as distributed by Northern Speech Services. The Enrolled also consents, at the time of achieving "Registered MBSImP Clinician" status, to publication of the Enrolled's name, credentials, facility name, city and state/province in a public listing of "Registered MBSImP Clinicians" as maintained and distributed by MBSImP management. The Enrolled may opt out of the public listing at any time by contacting Northern Speech Services.

Any unauthorized and/or non-credentialed access to www.mbsimp.com and/or utilization of any MBSImP materials, including all content and functionality contained within www.mbsimp.com is strictly prohibited. Individuals, institutions, or facilities in violation of these terms of use will be subject to nonrefundable and permanent loss of access to all aspects of the MBSImP training and patient management/reporting environments, reporting of all ethics violations, and/or immediate legal action.
